Dominic Thiem wins one of the most important matches of his great career in the Rome quarter-finals after he defeated Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-3 playing an outstanding tennis. Besides the result, the Austrian truly impressed with his accellerations and eventually he won many more points than Rafa (75 vs. 62).
Being aggressive was the key.
During the post-match interview, Dominic explained how he defeated Rafa
“Of course, I came in with a very aggressive game style because I knew that if I want to have a chance, then I have to do something different and be more aggressive,” Thiem commented. “I knew that if it goes in, everything, maybe I have a chance. If not, maybe I also lose easily.
But today was one of these days where I really felt the ball great on the racket, and a lot of risky shots went in. It was a very, very good performance, and I think probably one of my best matches.”
Dominic will face either Djokovic or Del Potro in the semifinal.
