At a press conference in Athens, Djordje Djokovic announced the permanent relocation of the ATP 250 tournament from Belgrade to the Greek capital, declaring the event “is here to stay.” The move, spearheaded by the Djokovic family, marks a strategic expansion into what Djordje described as an “untapped” tennis market, with potential plans for a women’s competition in 2026.
Top-50 players and global broadcast
Scheduled for November 2–8, the tournament will feature top-50 players including Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas, and will be broadcast in 130 countries. “I think it will be one of the best tournaments,” Djordje said, emphasizing the event’s global reach and competitive caliber.
A boost for Greek tourism and tennis
Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni hailed the initiative as a “springboard” for elevating Greece’s profile in international tennis, citing its potential to boost sports tourism and job creation. Hellenic Tennis Federation president Thodoris Glavas echoed the sentiment, calling it a “great opportunity” and expressing hope the tournament will inspire young athletes and remain a fixture in Greece.
