Jannik Sinner has officially announced that he will not participate in the 2025 Davis Cup Finals, marking a break after two consecutive years of triumph with the Italian national team. The decision, made in agreement with his coaching staff, reflects a shift in priorities as the world No. 2 prepares for the upcoming season. “This year we decided this way, together with my team. It wasn’t an easy choice, but I won’t change it,” Sinner told Sky Sport. “The goal after Turin is to start 2026 well, with the right mindset. Focus on Australia.”

The importance of preparation

Sinner highlighted the value of uninterrupted training ahead of the new season, suggesting that even a single week of competition can alter the rhythm of preparation. “It seems trivial not to train and just play for a week. But it’s not: you train differently, you prepare differently,” he explained. His remarks underline the physical and tactical demands of the Davis Cup, which often falls immediately after the ATP Finals.

Reflecting on past success

Italy’s victories in the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Davis Cup were pivotal moments in Sinner’s career. He acknowledged their significance while reinforcing his current focus. “Looking back at the Davis Cup: in 2023 and 2024 we won. That’s something to consider. It was important to win, and this year we made this decision,”

he said.

A clear direction forward

Sinner’s comments leave no room for reconsideration. His absence from Bologna’s Final 8 is definitive, and his attention is already on the Australian swing that opens the 2026 calendar. With the ATP Finals in Turin as his final commitment of the year, Sinner aims to enter the new season refreshed and fully prepared.
