Carlos Alcaraz has officially entered his 43rd week as the ATP World No. 1, equaling the record held by Brazilian legend Gustavo Kuerten. This achievement places Alcaraz in joint 14th position on the all-time list of players with the most weeks at the top of the rankings. At just 22 years old, Alcaraz continues to solidify his status among the elite in men’s tennis.
Climbing the historical leaderboard
Alcaraz’s consistency throughout the 2025 season, including his title win in Tokyo and strong performances across hard and clay courts, has helped him maintain his lead in the ATP rankings. With this latest milestone, he now shares company with Kuerten, who held the No. 1 spot for 43 weeks between 2000 and 2001. The next targets on the leaderboard include Jim Courier (58 weeks) and Jannik Sinner, who remains in close pursuit.
Securing the top spot through October
Alcaraz is guaranteed to remain World No. 1 until at least October 27, when the points from the ATP 500 event in Vienna will be counted. His current lead over Sinner stands at 720 points, and even if the Italian wins in Vienna, Alcaraz will retain a narrow advantage.
A legacy in progress
Alcaraz’s rise has been marked by Grand Slam victories, aggressive baseline play, and a fearless approach to competition. Matching Kuerten’s record is another step in a career that already includes six major titles. As he continues to chase further milestones, his place among the sport’s greats becomes increasingly secure.
