Nadal wins the title in Madrid

Rafael Nadal impresses again in Madrid after he won his 30th Master ATP1000 (and his 72 career title).
In the final, Rafa had to beat an inform DominicThiem Thiem that grabbed a fast 3-1 lead in the opener, and he had 2 set points that he wasn’t able to convert. Eventually, Nadal won the opener at the tiebreak (10-8).
Nadal conquered the decisive break in the very first game of the second set to then engage with an Austrian in a dogfight that ended with Nadal winning the match 7-6 (8) 6-4.

The is a very emotional part of the season. NADAL

Rafa didn’t t hide his satisfaction for winning his 5th title in Madrid and the 3rd of the season; The Mallorcan commented

“Today is a day to be satisfied, to be happy and to have this trophy. This is a very emotional period of the season. I really enjoy these tournaments. I just try to go for all of them. I try to compete. I did well in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona, and also here. I hope to do the same in Rome.”

It’s incredible how he plays. THIEM

Dominic played a great final, but he was aware that he couldn’t make it because his opponent was just too good. Thiem commented

“How he plays after his serve, it’s unbelievable. He hits so many forehands. You’re under pressure after his serve almost every time.

I gave everything that I could. But it was a final of a Masters 1000, my first one, against the best player on this surface ever. Sometimes against the best players in the world, you even lose when you play well. That’s the thing in tennis: there’s only one winner.”

Dominic and Rafa will now head to Rome where the Spaniard will chase his 4th consecutive title of the season.

This is fantastic stuff.
