US OPEN DRAW. Djokovic, Federer, Nadal’s projected path

The US Open draw is out, and as usual, the hot favorites are the big3: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.

The “big take” is that Roger Federer fell in Novak Djokovic’s half for the relief of Rafa. Here their projected paths.

Novak Djokovic

The world no.1 is also the top favorite to win this title that would represent his 17th slam. However, the Serbian sensation had to deal with a problem to his elbow in Cincinnati where he lost in the semifinal to an inspired Daniil Medvedev. This is Novak’s projected path at the Flushing Meadows.

R1  – Carballes Baena
R2  – Querrey
R3  – Lajovic
R4  – Anderson
1/4 – Medvedev
1/2 – Federer
Fin  – Nadal

Roger Federer

The Swiss had a fantastic draw especially because he is expected to have a smooth start since he will face a qualifier in his opening match. This is rather good news for the Swiss that has only 2 matches under his belt after the traumatic final in Wimbledon. Federer is well-known to be particularly effective if he gets into the right groove at the beginning of the tournaments so an “easy” start would be extremely helpful for the 20-time slam champion. This is Roger’s projected path.

R1  – Qualifier
R2  – Dzhumur
R3  – Pouille
R4  – Goffin
1/4 – Nishikori
1/2 – Djokovic
Fin  – Nadal

Rafael Nadal

Seeded no.2, the King of Clay seems to be in great form on hard courts. Rafa has recently won the Rogers Cup, and he is the world no.1 in the year to date rankings.  The Spanish sensation decided not to compete in Cincinnati to spare his body for the US Open. This is Rafa’s projected path.

R1  – Millman
R2  – Kokkinakis
R3  – Verdasco
R4  – Isner
1/4 – Zverev
1/2 – Thiem
Fin  – Djokovic/Federer
