Emma Raducanu entered 2025 with clarity and ambition. After years of battling injuries since her breakthrough at the 2021 US Open, the British No.1 made notable strides this season. Despite recurring back issues and illness, she reached the third round at three Grand Slams—Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Her campaign also featured deeper runs at key tournaments: quarterfinals in Miami and Queen’s Club, and a semifinal in Washington, D.C.

“I’m proud of the progress I’ve made this year,” Raducanu said earlier in the season. Though a title remained elusive, her 28 match wins and consistent presence in later rounds signaled a return to form.

Health Struggles in Asia

The Asian swing proved challenging. Raducanu suffered early exits in Korea, China, and Wuhan. In her match against Ann Li in Wuhan, she required medical attention for low blood pressure and retired while trailing 6-1, 4-1 on a humid afternoon. At the Ningbo Open, she again called for the doctor and lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin.

These episodes raised concerns about her physical condition. “She’s been pushing through a lot this year,” said coach Francisco Roig, who joined her team in August.

Season Shutdown and Future Plans

Following the Ningbo defeat, Raducanu made the decision to end her 2025 season early. Originally scheduled to play in Tokyo and Hong Kong, she will instead return to the UK to recover and prepare for 2026. Her partnership with Roig will continue, with a training block already planned for the end of the year.

Roig, known for his long tenure with Rafael Nadal, has brought stability to Raducanu’s coaching setup. “We’re building something solid for the long term,”

Roig told Tennis365.

Highlights and Hope

Despite setbacks, Raducanu’s season had bright spots. Her standout performance came at the Miami Open, where she defeated eighth seed Emma Navarro and pushed world No.4 Jessica Pegula to three sets in the quarterfinals. She also reached the semifinals in Washington and climbed back to World No.29.

As she steps away to heal, Raducanu remains focused on the future. With renewed coaching support and a clear plan, she aims to return stronger in 2026.
