Valentin Vacherot’s triumph at the Shanghai Masters marked a defining moment in his professional journey. Before lifting the trophy, his total career earnings stood at $594,077. That figure more than doubled after his dramatic three-set win over cousin Arthur Rinderknech, earning him $1,124,380 and bringing his career total to $1,718,457.
The win was not only a personal milestone but also a financial leap for the 25-year-old, who had never previously reached such heights on the ATP Tour.
Prize money takes a back seat
Despite the life-changing sum, Vacherot remains grounded. In a recent interview with Tennis Channel, he downplayed the importance of the money, focusing instead on the emotional and personal aspects of his success.
“To be honest it is more about people reminding me of the prize money because this is the last thing I will actually think about. To be honest it is pretty crazy to think but I don’t think about it, I forget about it sometimes,” Vacherot said, reflecting on how little the financial windfall has altered his mindset.
A long-awaited gift for his parents
What truly mattered to Vacherot was the opportunity to give back to his family. He revealed that he had been planning a surprise for his parents, using part of his winnings to bring them along for a special experience.
“I already told my parents, it is now or never, like, ‘I am booking your flights to Melbourne and you guys are coming with me,’”
he shared, highlighting the emotional significance of including them in his journey. He added, “It is all about, like, just investing into taking people with me to tournaments,” emphasizing that his success is something he wants to share with those who supported him from the beginning.
A rising star with grounded values
Vacherot’s story is one of perseverance, family, and humility. His Shanghai victory may have elevated his profile and bank account, but his focus remains on the people who helped him get there. As he prepares for the next chapter of his career, his gesture toward his parents offers a glimpse into the values that continue to guide him.
