Nick Kyrgios won a problematic opener in Madrid. The young Australian was struggling with his body and his mind (after his grandfather passed away), but that didn’t prevent him from beating Marcos Baghdatis 7-6 (1) 6-4.
My head wasn’t really in it. KYRGIOS
During the match, Nick had to call a physio to say “I can serve but I can’t move that well.” Soon after the match at the net, he apologized with Baghdatis saying that his “head wasn’t really in it.”
Nick will play either Ryan Harrison or his compatriot Bernard Tomic in the next round.
In his first match since the death of his grandfather, Kyrgios beats Baghdatis.
