Bouchard beats Sharapova in grudging match

What a match!

Genie Bouchard was eager to take on her fallen hero especially after few days the Canadian stated that Maria Sharapova should have been banned for life like all the other drug cheats.

All eyes were pointed at this match between the Canadian and the Russian they didn’t disappoint. It was about pride, and every shot looked to be aimed at that. Genie was great in recovering a 2-4 deficit in the opener to conquer the first set (7-5) before falling in the second (2-6). Everything went down to the last few games in the third set when the couple was fighting on a 4-4 score line. Eventually, it was Genie to find her way and win the contest 7-5 2-6 6-4 after 2 hours and 51 minutes.

I did for me and the other people. BOUCHARD

Genie was still critical after the match about Sharapova’s controversial wildcard to comment

“I wanted to do it for myself, but also all these people. I really felt support.

I definitely had some extra motivation going into today,” Bouchard added. “I was actually quite inspired before the match because I had a lot of players coming up to me privately wishing me good luck, players I don’t normally speak to, getting a lot of texts from people in the tennis world that were just rooting for me. So, I wanted to do it for myself, but also all these people. I really felt support.

It showed me that most people have my opinion, and they were just maybe scared to speak out.”

Next vs. Kerber

There is no much time for Genie to celebrate since she has now to face the seed no.1 Angelique Kerber in the following round. The head to head is 3-2 for the Canadian that leads Angelique 2-0 on clay.
