Following their victories in Milan, Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto will not be competing in the forthcoming FIP Platinum event in Lyon. An unparalleled run of participation by a top-four rated pair in this level of competition comes to an end with their withdrawal, which is a major milestone in the padel calendar.
In an attempt to take advantage of the absence of world No. 1s Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, the pair had originally entered for Lyon and intended to follow it up with the Newgiza P2 event. The Race ranking difference might have been reduced to less than 1,000 points with this calculated double entry. But in the end, physical exhaustion outweighed the chance to compete.
The decision is explained by Jorge Martinez.
In an interview with Il Piccolo Padel, Galan and Chingotto’s coach, Jorge Martinez, discussed the withdrawal and stated that physical strain was the main cause.
“Physical overload was the primary cause,” Martinez stated. “We’ve been playing a lot of games lately, and we’re getting tired. Ale’s back was tense because he was taller and had to cover more territory. We decided that relaxation was more important than running the danger of being hurt after the victory in Milan.
Martinez underlined that the players’ long-term health was taken into consideration when making the choice.
Taking a strategic break before the end of the season
Galan and Chingotto are now strong competitors for the top spot in the world rankings thanks to their recent performances and stellar form. The team has chosen to slow down and concentrate on recuperation before to the last push as the season enters its pivotal phase.
Martinez acknowledged that consistency will be essential to surpassing Coello and Tapia in the upcoming months, adding, “Health comes first.”
Although their climb may be delayed, their decision to withdraw from Lyon shows that they are taking a measured approach to sustaining their best performance. They are anticipated to make their next appearance in the Newgiza P2, where they hope to continue vying for the top spot.
