Carlos Alcaraz has offered a positive update on his left ankle injury, which he sustained during the Japan Open in early October. The injury occurred in the first round against Sebastian Baez, forcing Alcaraz to withdraw from the Shanghai Masters. Despite the setback, the world No. 1 remained active, training in El Palmar and even playing golf during his recovery period.
“The ankle has been doing well, recovering reasonably well. Maybe I’m playing without discomfort, but with a little bit of doubt. Those doubts always take a while to go away, but the truth is that we’re doing a good job. The ankle is holding up well,” he said.
Preparing for Riyadh exhibition
Alcaraz is now preparing for the Six Kings Slam, a high-profile exhibition event in Riyadh featuring Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The tournament, scheduled for October 16–18, offers a lucrative prize pool and a chance for top players to compete in a less demanding format.
His training sessions have shown no visible signs of discomfort, and his team, including physio Juanjo Moreno, has been praised for managing the recovery process effectively.
Maintaining momentum in 2025
Despite the injury, Alcaraz has had a dominant season, winning eight ATP titles and reaching nine consecutive finals. His resilience and consistency have kept him at the top of the rankings, even as rivals like Sinner push to close the gap.
The Six Kings Slam will be a key opportunity for Alcaraz to test his fitness and maintain his competitive edge before the final stretch of the season. His focus remains on staying healthy and continuing to improve, both physically and mentally.
