Murray: “How Konta can take advantage from Serena absence”

Serena Williams, probably the greatest female player in history, is taking the rest of the season off after announcing her unexpected pregnancy. With the American out, Sharapova trying to find her way back,  Azarenka still out (also for pregnancy), and Kerber unable to match the results she had in 2016, the “women game is open, ” and Konta can profit from it as per Andy Murray words.

How Konta can thrive. MURRAY

During a recent interview, Andy commented

“I don’t see why not. Right now the women’s game is very open, with Serena being out for the foreseeable future, which makes it very exciting for a lot of the top women.

No-one’s sure who’s going to step up in her absence, and Jo obviously has a chance. Clay maybe isn’t her favorite surface but, on the hard courts and the grass, there’s no reason why she can’t be right up there competing for the biggest tournaments and therefore the top spots in the rankings. It’s a big few months coming up for her.”

Jo is currently ranked no.7, and she will definitely go for more.
