Jack Draper has named Jamie Delgado as his new head coach, marking a pivotal change in his support team as he prepares for the 2026 season. Delgado, renowned for guiding Andy Murray during his rise to world number one, will take on the lead role and travel for the majority of tour weeks.

James Trotman, who has been a consistent presence in Draper’s corner for the past four years, will remain involved but with a reduced travel schedule. The adjustment reflects Draper’s desire for clarity and consistency in his coaching setup.

Building on a Breakthrough Season

The past two seasons have seen Draper emerge as one of the sport’s rising stars. In 2024, he reached the semi-finals of the US Open and claimed his first two ATP titles. This year, he broke into the world’s top four and captured his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells.

However, a bone bruise in his left arm has limited his play since Wimbledon, forcing him to withdraw from the US Open after a first-round win. He has since been training regularly at the National Tennis Centre in London.

Simplifying the Coaching Structure

Delgado’s appointment follows Draper’s decision to streamline his coaching team. “I had every intention of wanting Wayne to be in my team long-term,” Draper said at the US Open in August, referring to South African Wayne Ferreira, who briefly joined the team last summer. “In my own head, I’m an over-thinker, so I like to keep things simple as much as possible. I felt like I wanted to keep it to one voice.”

Delgado’s experience and calm presence are expected to bring that singular focus. His previous three-year stint with Grigor Dimitrov ended last month, but his legacy with Murray remains his most celebrated achievement. In 2016, Delgado helped Murray reach the French Open final, win Wimbledon, and finish the year as world number one after a 24-match winning streak.

Familiar Faces and Future Goals

Delgado joins a team already shaped by Murray’s influence. Draper hired physio Shane Annun and fitness coach Matt Little earlier this year, both of whom worked with the former world number one.

Now ranked eighth in the world, Draper is targeting a return at the UTS Grand Final in London this December. With Delgado at the helm and a renewed focus on simplicity, Draper is positioning himself for a strong comeback and a deeper push into the elite tier of men’s tennis.
