Novak Djokovic will not appear for post-match press duties after being advised by tournament doctors to rest and recover ahead of his next match on Thursday. The decision follows a physically taxing encounter at the Shanghai Masters, where the Serbian star showed visible signs of exhaustion.

“His priority is on getting himself ready for Thursday,” confirmed tournament officials, citing medical guidance.

Collapse After Second Set Loss

During his round of 16 match against Spain’s Jaume Munar, Djokovic won the first set 6-3 but collapsed after losing the second 5-7. The incident occurred as Munar claimed the set, prompting immediate concern from Djokovic’s team and the crowd. He had already vomited earlier in the match, further highlighting the physical toll.

Despite the setback, Djokovic recovered and dominated the third set, ultimately winning the match 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

Focus Shifts to Recovery

The 24-time Grand Slam champion remained splayed out on the court after the collapse, but rallied to break Munar’s serve in the first and seventh games of the final set. His resilience drew admiration, though his condition remains under close observation.

With top-ranked players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Taylor Fritz out of the tournament, Djokovic now stands as the highest-ranked contender remaining. His recovery will be crucial as he prepares for the next round in Shanghai.
