Novak Djokovic caused alarm during his round of 16 match at the Shanghai Masters when he collapsed on court while playing against Spain’s Jaume Munar. The incident occurred in the second set, with Djokovic trailing 5-6 after winning the first 6-3. As Munar clinched the set 7-5, Djokovic fell to the ground, prompting immediate concern from his team and spectators.

Earlier in the match, the Serbian had vomited once, showing signs of physical distress. Despite these setbacks, he refused to quit and continued to push through the pain.

A Gritty Comeback

Djokovic, aged 38 and holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, managed to recover and dominate the third set. He broke Munar’s serve in both the first and seventh games, sealing the match with a final score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

His resilience drew admiration from fans and commentators alike. Remaining splayed out on the court after the collapse, he was quickly attended to by his team, but rose to finish the match with characteristic intensity.

Field Opens Up for Djokovic

The Shanghai Masters has seen several top-ranked players exit early or withdraw. World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz opted out to rest, while Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Taylor Fritz—ranked second to fourth—have all been eliminated.

With these contenders out of the picture, Djokovic now stands as the highest-ranked player left in the tournament, further fueling anticipation around his performance in the upcoming rounds.
