Aryna Sabalenka has shared a candid look into her self-care habits and emotional wellbeing while navigating the demanding life of a professional tennis player. Speaking on Aryna’s Arena, the WTA star reflected on how long it took to build a routine that supports both her performance and her peace of mind.

“At the beginning, it was very tough to find my routine and then after, I don’t know, maybe five years traveling on tour, I could find my favorite spots or little things that I like to do in each city,” Sabalenka said. “It’s really important to just find things that you like and try to do it as often as you can.”

She emphasized the need to balance intense training with moments of calm, noting that small rituals—like skincare or visiting familiar places—help her stay grounded.

Beauty rituals and mental reset

Sabalenka’s self-care routine includes a mix of skincare and relaxation techniques that she adapts to wherever she is in the world. From morning cleansers to evening masks and serums, she’s developed a regimen that helps her feel refreshed and mentally prepared.

“With my morning beauty routine, balance me and I literally can do it anywhere I go,” she explained. “Magical serum for my eyes, because you know, I’m getting old and wrinkles.”

After discovering sun damage through a face scan, she now re-applies SPF frequently, even hourly, to protect her skin. These rituals are more than cosmetic—they’re part of her recovery and mental reset.

Familiar flavors and cultural comfort

Food also plays a key role in Sabalenka’s travel routine. She often seeks out Eastern European grocery stores to find staples from her Belarusian upbringing, like cottage cheese, kefir, and cabbage. These familiar tastes offer a sense of home and continuity amid constant travel.

“We have all our cottage cheese, kefir, larder meat, cabbage. We always travel all the time, it’s always new food everywhere. We grew up with this kind of food,”

she said.

Snack time becomes a moment of joy, often paired with Netflix or YouTube, and sometimes a dramatic movie that helps her unwind.

Redefining success and recovery

Sabalenka also spoke about the pressure athletes face to constantly push themselves, and how she’s learned to challenge that mindset. She believes that rest and enjoyment are essential—not indulgences, but necessities.

“My whole life I’ve been told that if you’re not working hard, you’ll never reach your goals. You cannot go out. You cannot do this, which I believe is wrong,” she said. “I think you have to just relax… just like forget about pennies for a little moment. I think it’s really important.”

Her reflections offer insight into the emotional complexity of life on tour, and how self-care—whether through beauty routines, familiar food, or quiet moments—can be a powerful tool for resilience.
