At just 18 years of age, 2 years ago Denis Shapovalov stormed in the Montreal semifinal after beating the likes of Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro on the way.
The Canadian drew the attention of the tennis community not only for his achievement but also for his fantastic hyper-aggressive style helped by an amazing one-handed backhand.
Unfortunately, since then, Denis has been struggling with consistency to alternate fantastic weeks with depressing series losing streaks. The Canadian managed to achieve a world no.20 career-high before sinking to be no.38 as of now. However, Shapovalov’s talent is unquestionable and he is well aware that he needs to be less “funky” on court to start to win titles.

For this reason, Denis is now partnering with the former world no.8 Mikhail Youzhny known as the “Colonel” for being extremely coriaceous.
Mikhail is already in Winston-Salem where Denis is playing as the second seed and he will follow him also during the US Open. The Canadian had a good start after he defeated Tennys Sandgren 6-2 6-4 to face Miomir Kecmanovic for a place in the quarters.
