Injured Monfils will not play the 2012 Roland Garros

Unfortunately Monfils will not be able to play the Roland Garros due to a right knee injury.

The Frenchman had to pull out after his defeat at the hand of a resurgent Brian Baker (see article)  in the second round in Nice.

This came after a bit of controversy sparked by Tsonga when he recently stated that there is no hope at the current moment for French players to win the Roland Garros.

“To be able to win at Roland Garros, first of all you have to have won a Masters Series tournament on this surface,” Tsonga said to the French press.

“For the moment we [French players] are incapable of winning a Masters Series on any surface.

“It’s no disgrace to admit that we are not on the same level as the top players.

“There are also a lot of players below our level. It’s not an admission of inevitability, it’s just what I see as the truth.”
