Svitolina wins the title in Istanbul

Elina Svitolina is having a fantastic 2017. The Ukraine has added the title in Istanbul to the previous triumphs in Taipei City and Dubai

Elina’s run was quite smooth for the entire week with the exception of an uncharacteristic bagel she suffered in the first round at the hands of the world no. 210 Viktoria Kamenskaya (Svitolina won 6-4 0-6 6-1). After the first round, Elina won all matches in straight sets.

In the final, Svitolina defeated the seed no.6 Elise Mertens 6-2 6-4.

After her triumph, Elina commented

“I was trying to take it match by match, and have it in my mind that I need to be 100% each match because the girls are even more motivated to beat you when you’re the No.1 seed. There’s extra pressure on me as well, and so I had to put it all behind me and think only of myself. People expected me to win, so that’s tough, but it can also be good for your confidence.”
