Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run at the Shanghai Masters, securing his seventh consecutive victory with a hard-fought win over Daniel Altmaier. The Italian star, fresh off his title in Beijing, showed resilience and adaptability in challenging conditions.

Navigating the Transition from Beijing

Just three days after lifting the trophy in Beijing, Sinner faced a swift turnaround and a new set of environmental challenges in Shanghai. The shift in humidity and court speed demanded a rapid recalibration of his game.

Jannik Sinner said, “Yeah, everything different. Much more humid. It can feel much more physical here… I tried to rest. It’s very difficult after you win a title. You have to have a great balance of practice but also feeling great physically.”

Despite the physical toll, Sinner remained focused on maintaining his energy levels and adjusting to the slower court pace.

He added, “You have to play with a lot of energy here. The court can get quite slow at times. You have to use the whole energy of your body to get through.”

Embracing the Challenge

Sinner acknowledged the difficulty of the match and the limited time he had to adapt to the new conditions. His determination and mental strength were evident throughout the contest.

“I knew before the match it would be very difficult. I didn’t have a lot of time to adapt here. It makes it even more special, no? Every day, every opponent is very difficult. It’s a huge challenge,” Sinner said.

His return to Shanghai was marked by fond memories and a renewed sense of purpose.

He said, “I’m very very happy to be back. I have great memories. Let’s see what’s coming.”

Looking Ahead

With momentum on his side, Sinner now turns his attention to the next round, aiming to elevate his performance even further. His focus remains on recovery and preparation, knowing that each match presents a new test.

“Hopefully I’m able to raise my level tomorrow. Very happy today, let’s see what’s coming tomorrow,” Sinner concluded.

As the tournament progresses, Sinner’s consistency and adaptability continue to make him a formidable contender on the ATP tour.
