Carlos Alcaraz has expressed concerns about the demanding tennis calendar, highlighting the pressure of too many mandatory tournaments scheduled consecutively. He pointed out that players face strict rules requiring participation in Masters 1000 and 500 events, limiting their ability to choose which tournaments to play.

Physical and Mental Demands

Alcaraz emphasized the toll this schedule takes not only physically but also mentally. He mentioned the need to sometimes skip mandatory tournaments to preserve his physical condition and mental well-being, acknowledging the intense strain of playing many events back-to-back without sufficient rest.

Agreement with Iga Swiatek

Reflecting on the shared sentiment among players, Alcaraz agreed with Iga Swiatek’s stance on the issue. He anticipates that many players will consider skipping some mandatory tournaments in the future to protect their health and performance.

“I think there are too many mandatory tournaments, too many in a row… We as tennis players are not allowed to have a choice if we have to play or not.”

“I will consider skipping some mandatory tournaments to the benefit of myself mentally. I agree with Iga and I think a lot of players are gonna do that.”

These remarks align with comments Alcaraz made during a Laver Cup press conference last year, where he criticized the tight schedule and the increasing number of mandatory events, warning that it could “kill us in some way”.
