Coco Gauff kicked off her campaign at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing with a commanding 6-4 6-0 victory over Kamilla Rakhimova. The win marks her seventh consecutive triumph on Chinese soil, reinforcing her status as one of the tournament’s top contenders.

Defending her title with confidence

After the match, Gauff spoke about her return to Beijing, where she lifted the trophy last year. “Super happy to be back here. I have great memories here from last year. Hoping to make some more good memories here,” she said, smiling.

Forbidden City plans still on hold

Asked whether she had revisited the Forbidden City for “more blessings,” as she had previously mentioned, Gauff admitted she hadn’t yet found the time. “No I haven’t. I just haven’t had time. But maybe tomorrow or something. I wanna go shopping so I think we’re gonna go to some of the malls here today,” she added.

Eyes on the next round

With her form peaking and confidence high, Gauff now turns her attention to the second round. Her blend of focus and ease off the court continues to define her approach, as she balances competitive fire with a light-hearted spirit in Beijing.
