Carlos Alcaraz suffered a worrying ankle twist during his opening match at the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo against Sebastián Báez. The incident occurred early in the first set, prompting immediate concern as the Spaniard limped toward the bench. Despite the discomfort, Alcaraz chose to continue and ultimately secured a straight-sets victory.

Positive signs after initial scare

Speaking after the match, Alcaraz offered a reassuring update on his condition. “After all I started to feel a little bit better. I was able to walk to the bench which for me was a relief. Now I’m feeling the same way, so I would say it’s great because when it cooled down I felt the same as when I was playing. It’s a great sign,” he said.

Focus shifts to recovery and next round

With the win, Alcaraz advanced to the second round, but all eyes remain on his physical condition. His ability to finish the match strongly and maintain stability post-game suggests the injury may not be serious. The team around him will continue to monitor his progress as he prepares for his next opponent in Tokyo.
