Nadal reaches the semi-final in Monte Carlo

Rafael Nadal is well on his way to winning his 10th title in Monte Carlo. The Spanish legend has edged a tricky Sebastian Schwartzman in the quarter-finals.

Rafa had to recover from 1 break down in both sets agaisnt the Argentine. In the opener, the Mallorcan was uncharacteristically broken in the very first game at love. Then Rafa won the following four games (4-1) before conquering the first set. In the second set after leading 2-0, Nadal had to surrender four consecutive games (2-4), to win himself the following 4. Finally, the Spaniard won the match 6-4 6-4.

After the match, Rafa commented

“It wasn’t easy to find a real way to win, but I played much better in the last three-and-a-half games, more aggressive with my forehand. I finally found the way to create damage on the opponent.  I am in the semi-finals. That’s what I’m looking for, a great start to the clay-court season.”


The semi vs. Goffin

Rafa was meant to face Novak Djokovic in the semi-final, but eventually, the Serb was upset by David Goffin. This is the first time that Rafa and David ply each other at tour level.
