After losing 6-1 6-4 at the Laver Cup, Alexander Zverev admitted that his performance against Alex De Minaur was compromised from the very beginning. “I think today was more about me, to be very honest,” he said, acknowledging that his own level was far from what was required. Despite landing 84 percent of his first serves, the German quickly found himself trailing. “I just started off extremely bad. I was 4-0 down within a couple of minutes, so the first set was gone very, very quickly.”

Fighting in the second set

Although Zverev raised his intensity in the second set, he conceded that it was not enough to turn the match around. “Then the second set, I was fighting, but I was just not playing well enough, just not doing enough to win this match.” His words reflected both frustration and honesty, as he admitted that De Minaur’s consistency and pace exposed his struggles.
