Steve Johnson won an extremely complicated final in Houston against Bellucci. The American no.4 was limping for the most of the third set because of a problem with his left leg (cramps). Bellucci didn’t manage to take advantage of the struggles of his opponent, and eventually, Steve won the match 6-4 4-6 7-6 (5).

I struggled when coming back from Australian. JOHNSON

In the post-match interview, Johnson confessed that he couldn’t recover from his trip from Australia where he played the Davis Cup. The American commented

“My body has just physically run out of gas after this week. Coming in from Australia kind of put me behind the eight ball and then the nerves of trying to close out the final, a lot of factors go into cramping. I was very fortunate to get out of that.”

This is Johnson’s 2nd career title after Nottingham 2016.
