Stefanos Tsitsipas explains why stepping away from social media is helping his mental health

Stefanos Tsitsipas Steps Away From Social Media

Stefanos Tsitsipas has opened up about his choice to reduce time spent on social media, citing mental health as the driving force behind the decision. In a recent interview, the Greek tennis star shared that he was influenced by athletes like Naomi Osaka and Grigor Dimitrov, who have publicly advocated for mental well-being. Tsitsipas explained that he unfollowed everyone on his social accounts and began distancing himself from the digital noise that had become a source of stress.

Social media as a source of pressure and distraction

Tsitsipas admitted that he often turned to social media as a way to escape the pressure of competition and injury. He described spending hours watching videos and scrolling through content, which he realized was not helping him recover or focus. “I take out all my stress by going on social media,” he said, acknowledging that this habit was becoming counterproductive. The constant exposure to curated lives and expectations was affecting his mindset, especially during a season marked by physical setbacks.

Encouraging young people to reconnect with real life

Beyond his personal journey, Tsitsipas expressed a desire to inspire younger generations to prioritize real-life experiences over digital consumption. He emphasized the importance of sports, outdoor activities, and genuine human connection. “I want young kids to be dedicated to real life, playing sports, going out, doing activities that I did when I was little,” he said. His message is clear: mental health should be nurtured through balance, presence, and meaningful engagement.

A challenging season and the need for clarity

The 2025 season has been difficult for Tsitsipas, with recurring injuries and early exits from major tournaments. He spoke candidly about the emotional toll of stepping onto the court with physical discomfort and the anxiety that followed. Disconnecting from social media has been part of a broader effort to regain control and clarity. By focusing on recovery and minimizing distractions, Tsitsipas hopes to rebuild confidence and return to form.
