Romanian tennis star Sorana Cirstea has made a heartfelt appeal following the theft of her tournament trophy from her hotel room in New York. The incident occurred while she was competing in the 2025 US Open, casting a shadow over what had been a triumphant moment in her career.

The Missing Trophy

Cirstea had recently won the Tennis in the Land tournament in Cleveland, marking her third career singles title and her first hardcourt victory since 2008. The trophy, which she described as having no material value but immense sentimental importance, was stolen from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

Public Appeal for Its Return

On Saturday night, Cirstea took to Instagram to ask for the trophy’s return. Her message was direct and emotional: “Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta please give it back! It has NO material value, just sentimental value. It would be greatly appreciated!”

Tournament Performance

Despite the unfortunate incident, Cirstea competed in both singles and doubles at the US Open. She reached the second round in singles before falling to No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova. In doubles, she and her partner Anna Kalinskaya were eliminated in the first round.

Hotel Response

The Fifty Sonesta Hotel declined to comment publicly on the matter, though reports indicate that their director of safety and security, a retired NYPD detective, is overseeing the investigation. The hotel’s general manager stated they are in close communication with Cirstea and are treating the situation with seriousness.
