Konta triumphs in Miami!

Jo Konta rocks!

The British no.1 wins the most important title of her career in Miami after defeating Caroline Wozniacki in the final. Jo had an outstanding run in Florida where she beat top players that were also in a top form such as Simona Halep, Venus Williams, and Caroline Wozniacki.

Jo started the final against Wozniacki in the best possible way after she broke the Dane at love in the very first game. Then, the former world no.1 found her range to break back in the 4th game (2-2). From that moment, the opening set was riddled with breaks, but eventually the British no.1 found the solution to conquering the opener (6-4). The second set was also pretty even; Jo stepped up half way to win four consecutive games from a 2-3 score-line and grab the title. The final score was 6-4 6-3.

It was executing my tactic. KONTA

After the match, Jo explained what she wanted to achieve against Caroline

“I think going into any match, but also against someone like Caroline who’s such as athlete and can really stay out there as long as she needs to, it was really important for me to straightaway assert myself in the manner I wanted to play just, so I had it clear in my head and give myself the best chance of executing what I wanted to tactically.”

This is Konta’s 3rd career title, the second of the season after Sydney. The Brit will be ranked no.7 after this week (career high), she will be no.2 in the year to date rankings, and she definitely has a shot at becoming the world no.1 if she keeps on playing like this.
