GRITTY. Jo Konta reaches the Miami semi-final

Jo Konta is the first British woman to reach the semifinal in Miami. 

The world no.11 had an exciting win against a pugnacious Simona Halep. After losing the opener, Jo was leading 3-0 in the second set, but the Romanian refused to bow to recover nad get the chance to serve for the match (5-4). Eventually, Simona was broken and everything went to the breaker. Johanna was very close to defeat after trailing on a 3-5 scoreline in the tiebreak, but then she managed to win three consecutive points before engaging in a battle of nerves that ended up with Konta winning the second set. The decider lasted three games (2-1 for Simona); then Jo took the ownership of the match to clinch five consecutive games and win the contest 3-6 7-6 (7) 6-2.

Jo gave credits to Simona especially for her comeback in the second set to comment

“I went up to a 3-0 lead and had chances to go 4-0 up, but she’s an incredible player, and I knew it wouldn’t be over until we shook hands.” 

The semi vs. Venus Williams

Jo will play a rejuvenated Serena Williams in the semifinal. The head to head is 2-1 for the Brit that has defeated Venus in the last two matches.
