Maria is once again the Queen of Rome after an incredible match.

It was a match of remarkable comebacks and a final thriller. The first and most remarkable comeback was performed by Maria that was down 6-4 4-0 40-0 to recover and win 8 straight games and bring the march on her side with a 4-1 lead in the decider.

Game over? No way! It was time for Li Na come back again to bring the Chinese to a 6-5 lead and a match point saved by the Russian to get to the tiebreak. Then it was time for the rain. The match was posponed and the 2 players came back after 2 hours just to play the tiebreab won by Maria 7-5.

“It was a crazy match,” said Sharapova. “Either one of us could have won it. There really is no loser.”

“When we came back out, she was the tougher player,” said Li. “But I take some positives away. It’s getting close to Roland Garros and I think I hit the ball well. I also moved her around the court well.The match was a joke, it was like playing a football match in the rain. Even when we were sent off court, you had to still concentrate for every second, it was tiring for both players.”
