Rafael Nadal was eager to win his 1000th career match in Miami against Philipp Kohlschreiber, but things didn’t start really well. In fact, the Spaniard surprised everyone after losing the first set 6-0. The Mallorcan found his range in the second set when he finally won the first service game at the opening; then Rafa started to take off and soon after he conquered seven consecutive games (from 0-6 2-2 to 0-6 6-2 3-0). That proved to be too much for the German, and eventually Rafa won the contest after 98 minutes. The final score was 0-6 a weird 6-2 6-3.

1000 matches are a lot. NADAL

After his victory, Rafa commented

“One thousand matches is a lot of matches. Obviously, that’s good news because that says I am having a long career. During a lot of years, I heard that I’m going to have a short career, so it’s something important for me,” said Nadal. “I remember the first match very well because it was at home in Mallorca. It was my first victory on the ATP and was a great feeling.”
