Nishikori beats Anderson in Miami Opener

Kei Nishikori had a horrible draw in Miami to play to face Kevin Anderson in the opener. Eventually, the Japanese made it easy to defeat the South African 6-4 6-3 after 88 minutes. Kei was in complete control for the entire duration of the match: he broke his opponent three times, and he has never conceded a single break point.

After the encounter, Kei commented

“I thought it was a great match to start the tournament. Played really solid. Everything was almost perfect. I’m very happy with the tennis today. Hopefully, every match is going to be like that.”

Kei will face either Fernando Verdasco or American rising star Ernesto Escobedo in the 3rd round.
