Murray should miss the Davis Cup tie

Bad news for the GB Davis Cup team as it seems more and more plausible that Andy Murray will not play the upcoming Davis Cup quarters against France next month (7th-9th April)

Recently, the Briton had to withdraw from the Miami Open because of a problem with his elbow and an illness that is considered as the consequence of the shingles that he contracted a couple of months ago.

Why Andy is not expected to play

GB captain Leon Smith doesn’t think it is a good idea for Andy to play the tie if he is not at his 100%.

Leon commented

“We don’t know the extent of the injury but Andy being injured makes it less likely he will play. I wouldn’t want him to rush back for the Davis Cup, but we’re all hopeful he will play.

First and foremost is his health. He’s played so much tennis in the last 12 months to get to where he is. There is much more than Davis Cup for him to look forward to over the rest of the year, not least three Grand Slams.”

If Andy won’t make it, it’s likely that Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund will play singles. They can still make it.
