There is a lot of talk in tennis about the punishment received by Nick Kyrgios following his disgraceful conduct during his match against Karen Khachanov. The Australian was in full flow with his antics to finally being slapped by the ATP with a massive $113,000 fine (see article).
Does Kyrgios deserve to be banned or suspended?
Being Kyrgios such a polarising figure, the social media went on fire about this argument. Some think that the fine is enough, some others believe that the Australian should be suspended or even banned from the sport.
The ATP also referred to the possibility of suspending the world no.27 in their official statement when they said: “That could result in an additional fine and/or suspension.”
Boris Becker is rather vocal on Twitter saying that even if he completely disagree with what Nick Kyrgios has done on and off the court, the Australian should not be banned.
The former world no.1 commented:
“My 5 Cents on NK: he was fined $113k last night deservingly for his unsportsmanlike behaviour on/off the court! (some of us have been there) but suspension would be unjustified/way to harsh! Most of us rooting for him to mature and become leader of the pack ( sans Nole/Rafa)”
… Becker’s dilemma
Later on, Becker also vented his frustration with the fact that the sport needs personalities and Kyrgios could be one of them. However, the German concedes that it is a pity that Nick behaves in this way, and he has no clarity.

Absolutely agree that spitting/foul language/tanking should be punished hard but we have dilemma since we want strong personalities lead the sport( Roger/Rafa/Nole)! NK has the game/charisma/guts but not yet the clarity of thought/maybe never ….it’s a shame
