Federer, Nadal, Djokovic advance in Rome. Murray upset.

FEDERER – FERRERO 6-2 5-7 6-1
Tipical double sided Roger. He played two wonderful sets (the 1st and the 3rd) and he went on vacation in the second. Eventually the Swiss won the match in less than 2 hours blasting 12 aces.

However, we need to say that this 3 set match didn’t reflect the difference between the two. Roger won 90 points out of 157 with a 46-12 lead in winners to confirm hat the Swiss was still quite dominant.

Here an interesting interview about Federer feelings about his magic moment

SEPPI – WAWRINKA 6-7 (1) 7-6 (6) 7-6 (6)

Incredible stuff! The Italian defeated the Swiss in 3h 21m in a thrilling match. Seppi was great in defending 8 out 12 break points and in converting 4 out 5 breakpoints conceded by his opponent.

Interesting enough the Italian won less points than the Swiss (122-125).

In the next round Seppi will play Federer.
Head to head is 8-0 for Roger. Andreas has never managed to win a set on clay with Federer in 3 matches.

NADAL – GRANOLLERS 6-1 6-1

The King of Clay was too good for his fellow countryman to concede only a couple of games. Just to find a little flaw in Rafa’s game, he did not blast any ace to commit 4 double faults. Otherwise… he was perfect.

Rafa will play in the quarters against Berdych.
Head to Head is 11-3 for Rafa. 3-0 on clay. Tomas does not defeat the Spaniard since 2006.

DJOKOVIC – MONACO 4-6 6-2 6-3

It was expected to be a tough match.. and that was it! A nervous Djokovic had to fight back from a 0-1 set deficit to overcome an inspired Monaco.

Nole couldn’t really connect with ball. ‘It was a very strange match. It was difficult to play with that wind but the conditions were the same for both us, he just handled it better at the start,” Djokovic said . ”I was playing far too defensively and passively and he was controlling everything. He was the better player for a set and a half.”

At a certain point the Serb could not control his anger to smashed and destroy his racket on the ground. ”It’s not the first time and I don’t think it will be the last time – I’m a player with a lot of emotion,” Djokovic said. ”I hope kids didn’t see it. But then it changed the match. … The momentum swung to my side.”

Djokovic will play Tsonga in the quarters.
Head to Head is 5-4 for Tsonga. This will be the first time they will play on clay.

GASQUET – MURRAY 6-7(1) 6-3 6-2

Horrible stuff for the Scott that suffered another upset. Andy was never at ease on the match complaining about everything. He was struggling a lot with the shadows on the court that made it difficult to see the ball on the court (on TV it was impossible.. ok this was not his problem!).

Andy was swearing everything he could confirming that something is not working in his tennis. It seems that his partnership with Lendl is bringing nothing to the party.
