Emma Raducanu has officially teamed up with Francis Roig, the former long-time coach of Rafael Nadal, in a move that signals her intent to stabilize and elevate her game. Roig, who was part of Nadal’s coaching team for nearly two decades and contributed to all 22 of his Grand Slam victories, will work with Raducanu through the end of the 2025 season.

Raducanu began discussions with Roig during Wimbledon and entered a trial period shortly after her third-round exit to Aryna Sabalenka. Speaking ahead of the Cincinnati Open, she confirmed the partnership and expressed her satisfaction: “It is going pretty well. He’s obviously got a bank of experience.” The Spanish coach will now be a full-time presence as she prepares for the US Open.

A turning point after coaching instability

Since winning the US Open in 2021, Raducanu has cycled through several coaching arrangements, struggling to find a long-term fit. Earlier this year, she worked informally with Mark Petchey, but his broadcasting commitments prevented a full-time role. Roig’s arrival marks a shift toward consistency and strategic development.

Raducanu has shown promising form in recent months, reaching the quarterfinals at Queen’s Club and the semifinals at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. With Roig’s guidance, she hopes to refine her technique and tactical approach, particularly on hard courts where she has historically performed well.

Looking ahead to the US Open

Currently ranked No. 33 in the world, Raducanu is aiming to be seeded at the US Open later this month. Roig’s experience at the highest levels of the sport is expected to help her navigate the challenges of Grand Slam competition. The pair began working together in Cincinnati, where Raducanu will compete in the final lead-up event before Flushing Meadows.

As she continues to rebuild her momentum, Raducanu’s collaboration with Roig could be the key to unlocking her full potential. With a coach who has helped shape one of the greatest careers in tennis history, she is optimistic about the road ahead.
