Sharapova, Kvitova, Williams sisters to the quarters in Roma – Youtube

No surprises in day 4 in the ladies tennis.

SHARAPOVA – IVANOVIC 7-6(4) 6-3

Maria wins the beauty contest with Ana in straight sets.

Ana’s tennis is getting better and better to try to get back to the top ten, but this time she struggled with her nerves.

the Serb squandered 6 set points in the first set. One on Masha’s service game when she was 5-3 up and five in the next game on her own service game. Ivanovic looked hyper nervous at every single point casting lots of glances at her coach in between points.

Finally, Sharapova proved to be more psycologically solid to win the match in straight sets. Maria once again had serious problems on her service to double fault 8 times.

VENUS WILLIAMS – STOSUR 6-4 6-3

Wildcarded Venus defeated the Australian in straight sets in a tense match dominated by breaks. Both players had a real struggle to hold their service games with  Venus being broken 4 times and Sam 6!
Venus will play next Sharapova.
In the head to head stats Venus leads 5-3. She does’t lose a match (and a set) with Maria since 2007. They have never played each other on the clay.

KVITOVA – CIRSTEA 6-2 5-7 6-2

Tricky game for Petra to defeat the world no 45 in 3 sets.

Also this match has been dominated by breaks (11 out of 28 games) with Petra unable to blast a single ace and to commit 4 double faults.
After an easy first set, Petra had to cope with a strong come back from the Romanian to then regroup and win a comfortable decider.
Petra will play Keber in the quarters.
Head to head: 1-0 for Petra. The only matches they played was this year Stuttgart on clay (6-4 6-4 for the Czech)

SERENA WILLIAMS – MEDINA GARRIGUES 6-3 6-1

Trashy stuff for Serena (once again!). The American had an easy life with the Spaniard to defeat her in straight sets in 76 minutes.

”I feel good and I have had a lot of practice on clay and today I was running so much and I was ready to play and feeling good,” Serena said. ”I wasn’t tired at all. I feel good.”

Serena will play in the next round with the Italian Flavia Pennetta that is having a surprising tournament to get to the quarter unseeded and without dropping a set.
Head to head 2-1 for Serena. But the only time that Flavia won… well it was on a walk over in 2005 in Toronto
