Victoria Vanessa Mboko was born on August 26, 2006, in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. She is a Canadian professional tennis player who currently resides in Burlington, Ontario. Standing at 1.79 meters tall, she plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand and has quickly risen through the ranks of the WTA Tour.
Family and Upbringing
Victoria is the youngest of four children in a family that emigrated from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her father, Cyprien Mboko, is a tennis enthusiast who never played professionally but introduced the sport to his children as a way to stay active and disciplined. Her mother, Godee Kitadi, earned an accounting degree from the Université de Montréal after relocating to Canada.
The family’s journey began with Godee moving to Montreal in 1999 while pregnant with their third child, David. Cyprien later joined her in North Carolina, where the family settled before moving to Toronto in 2006. Their commitment to tennis led them to Burlington, where Victoria began training at Ace Tennis Academy.
Siblings and Athletic Influence
Victoria has three older siblings:
-
Gracia Mboko, who earned a tennis scholarship at the University of Denver.
-
Kevin Mboko, who played collegiate tennis at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania.
-
David Mboko, a talented player who stepped away from tennis due to eye issues and pursued a degree in computer science at the University of Toronto.
Inspired by her siblings, Victoria picked up a racket at age three and quickly showed promise. Her early exposure to competitive tennis shaped her into one of Canada’s most exciting young talents.
Coaching Guidance
Victoria Mboko is coached by Nathalie Tauziat, a former world No. 3 and Wimbledon finalist. Tauziat’s experience and strategic insight have played a key role in Mboko’s rapid development on the professional circuit. Their partnership has helped Mboko transition smoothly across surfaces, particularly grass, where Tauziat’s own success has served as a source of inspiration.
