Naomi talks about trying to be like Serena

Naomi Osaka has just regained her world no.1 status after she reached the quarters last week in Toronto where she was beaten in straight sets by Serena Williams.

Before their contest, Naomi used to have an immaculate record against the American legend as she defeated her twice and always in straight set in 2018 in Miami (6-3 6-2) and at the US Open (6-3 6-4). The 23-time slam champion was looking forward to having a rematch against the Japanese and this time she “got her” to win 6-3 6-4.

Why it’s a dream playing with Serena

Naomi had a nice interview with the Tennis Channel to say:

“When I played her [Serena], it was just really amazing because every time that I play her, it’s sort of like a bit of a weird dream.

You go in there after watching her as a kid play a lot of different people and then you have the chance to play her, and for me, it’s just she played so well, and I didn’t really have the chance to do anything.

So I learned in a way like she’s the best player, so I have so many things that I could do, that I kind of want to do like her. I guess I can’t say that I will do like her, that I want to do like her.”

Naomi will kick-start her campaign in Cincinnati against Aliaksandra Sasnovich strong of a 3-0 record against the Belarussian.
