Bianca Andreescu’s coach Sylvain Bruneau says that the top priority for her is avoiding injuries. He is confident that if she is fit, she can take on any player.
The 19-year-old has won two titles this season, the first one at Indian Wells and the second one the Rogers Cup in her native Canada. It was surprising for her coach considering that she came from a long layoff. He said:
“It does, noting her long layoff. It does, I must say because what happened with her injuries, very little tennis, that she comes here and wins the whole thing, it’s pretty amazing. On the first day, to be honest. I was surprised with the level she played, just to be at the tournament was a win for us.”
Her triumph in the Rogers Cup was especially surprising considering the fact that she did not decide whether she will play or not a week before the start of the Rogers Cup. She planned that she would completely heal herself before she participates in a major tournament. Considering this her triumph in the tournament was surprising.
Why Bianca Andreescu can win the US Open?
The teenager started the season with a rank below 150 but now she is in the Top 20. Her game has the power off the ground with spin. She has a variety and angles plus she is a great athlete. Considering all this, her coach feels that she will be “among” the favourites to win the US Open this season. Bruneau says that with her potential she can win against anyone in the world. He, however, says that there is still a lot of scope for improvement in the young Canadian:
“We’re going to keep working on her serving, and I think there’s things she can still get better at. I want her into the net a little bit more, and strategy… she has a lot of tools inside her toolbox, so when to use them and when not to.”
“And she’s a great athlete, but physically she can get stronger.”
He concluded:
“No. I’m not saying she’s beating everybody, but I think she has her chance against everybody.”
