World Tennis Day versus Indian Wells

Tennis fans are used to moving their eyes back and forth while watching matches. So switching between two major events should be no challenge. This week features World Tennis Day in New York and the Indian Wells Master in California.

A yearly promotion to increase participation among children, World Tennis Day is topped by the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden. The exhibition will star tennis legends Venus Williams and Andy Roddick along with current players Kei Nishikori and Nick Kyrgios.

The Indian Wells Masters, also known as the BNP Paribas Open, is held every year at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California. For the men, this a Masters 1000 tournament and it is a Premier Mandatory event for the women.

Played on the hard courts in the California desert, the Indian Wells Masters is the most popular tournament outside of the four Grand Slam competitions.  Indian Wells boasts the second largest permanent tennis stadium and in 2015 had over 450,000 visitors.

World Tennis Day will be March 6, 2017, and that is also the first day of the BNP Paribas Open, which opens with qualifying rounds and the main draw starts for the women on Wednesday and the men on Thursday.

The Madison Square Garden event will also play host to Garbine Muguruza, Jack Sock, Juan Martin del Potro and Lleyton Hewitt. The exhibition is a team style competition pitting Roddick and the America team against Hewitt and the World team.
