Hurkacz withdraws from the US Open.

Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz has officially withdrawn from the 2025 US Open, marking another difficult moment in a season riddled with physical challenges. The Polish tennis star, once ranked as high as No. 6 in the world, has faced a series of injuries that have disrupted his momentum and forced him to miss several key tournaments.

Knee Surgery and Recovery

The trouble began at Wimbledon 2024, where Hurkacz tore the meniscus in his right knee during a second-round match against Arthur Fils. The injury was severe enough to require arthroscopic surgery, and doctors initially predicted he wouldn’t return to competition until 2025. Hurkacz underwent an intense rehabilitation process and made a surprisingly swift comeback at the Canadian Open just weeks later.

Synovial Membrane Irritation

Despite his rapid return, Hurkacz’s recovery was far from smooth. In preparation for Wimbledon 2025, he experienced irritation of the synovial membrane—a complication from his earlier surgery—which ultimately led to his withdrawal from the tournament. The inflammation caused pain and fluid buildup, making it impossible for him to compete at full strength.

A Season of Missed Opportunities

The knee injury wasn’t the only setback. Hurkacz also dealt with a lower back issue that forced him to pull out of the Miami Open and later the Munich Open. These recurring problems have kept him from building consistency and defending crucial ranking points, resulting in a significant drop in his ATP standing.

Looking Ahead

While Hurkacz’s absence from the US Open is disappointing for fans, his decision reflects a commitment to long-term health and performance. With multiple injuries behind him and a cautious approach moving forward, the hope is that he can return to peak form in the coming months.
