Both Williams, Kvitova, Sharapova advance in Rome

Not big upsets in Rome.

Williams Sisters
Both Williams advance in Rome in style. Serena trashed another player. This was the time of Voskoboeva to lose 6-2 6-3 in 77 minutes. Wildcarded Venus had a comfortable one with Simona Halep to win 6-3 6-4.

Sharapova
Sharapova had a difficult win with Christina McHale (7-5 7-5 in more than 2 hours). The switch from the blue to the red clay definately played a role in here.
“It was really about adjusting today,” Sharapova said. “I made too many unforced errors in the first part of the match and she was playing extremely consistently. Maybe I was trying to hit too many winners then. But I was fortunate enough to win that first set and get back into it in the second set. It was close. She has certainly improved since last time I played her,” added Sharapova.

Kvitova
Petra defeated Pavlyuchenkova also in 2 hours 7-5 6-4. The Czech was quite good in winning the match against the Russian that is really in top form.

“I have to say I was nervous before the match,” Kvitova said. “I saw how she was playing in her last match, and also I lost the last time I played her, which wasn’t a nice memory going into this one. It was tough for me at the beginning but I’m happy I won and I have things to improve on for the next match.”
