Roger Federer has never enjoyed much playing on clay in his career for two reasons: first, his tennis doesn’t really match up with the dirt; second, Nadal has always been an enormous obstacle for the Swiss. The questions this year are: “Will Roger compete during the clay court season?” and “Will he play the Roland Garros?”

During a recent interview with the Time, Roger explains why he is not really sure about what to do about his upcoming clay court season. The Maestro commented
“I will only decide on the clay-court swing after Miami. In my best years, I played three, sometimes four tournaments [on clay]. It’s going to be a hard ask right now; the body also needs to heal again.”
What to expect
Roger doesn’t have fantastic chances to win the Roland Garros or any other major tournament on clay. The impression is that if Federer has a good run in Indian Wells and Miami, he may also opt to skip the entire clay court season so as to immediately focus on the grass season when he will play three tournaments (Stuttgart, Halle, and Wimbledon).
Yes, skipping the entire clay court season may make sense.
