From the organization
The tournament director, Raul Zurutuza, commented
“This is great news for the tournament. We’re very pleased to have the World No. 2 in the Acapulco field. The public will be very happy, and we’re treating it like a big party. Novak and Rafa are two great players that give very important value to the tournament. Also, having Raonic, Del Potro and Goffin in the field will make this a great event.”
Why this is weird
At the beginning of the month, Djokovic announced that he would not have competed in Dubai because of an injury. Now he chooses to play Acapulco in the same week (?). In addition, the world no.2 has never played a tournament in Latin America in his career with the exception of the recent Olympics in Rio where he lost in the first round to Del Potro.
