RANKINGS. Osaka official world no.1. Andreescu and Bouzkova advance

WTA RANKINGS. Naomi Osaka, Bianca Andreescu, and Marie Bouzkova are the top movers of the week

Naomi Osaka world no.1

Last week we have witnessed a scintillating Rogers Cup in Toronto that ended with the final triumph of the home favorite Bianca Andreescu. After her title, the Canadian was also a big mover in the rankings alongside Naomi Osaka and Marie Bouzkova.

Bianca Andreescu’s rankings

After her run in Ontario, Bianca gained 13th places in the rankings to be the new world no.14 (career-high). Even more interesting, the Canadian sensation is no.8 in the year to date rankings to have a rather good shot at qualifying for the WTA Finals.

Naomi Osaka’s rankings

Naomi reached the quarters in Toronto before losing to Serena Williams. The Japanese took full advantage of the fact that Ashleigh Barty lost in the opening match to be back and lead the rankings. Naomi needs to perform well if she wants to keep the top spot of the rankings after Cincinnati. Things may become a bit more complicated later for Naomi when she has to defend 2000 points at the US Open. Even if Osaka is leading the rankings, she is only no.6 in the year to date rankings.

Marie Bouzkova’s rankings

The young Czech had an outstanding run in Toronto where she reached the semifinal coming straight from the qualifications. Even more impressing, she lost in the final 4 in 3 sets to the great Serena Williams after annihilating the American in the first set. The final result was 1-6 6-3 6-3. After her campaign in Ontario, Marie goes up 38 places up in the rankings to be the new world no.53 (career-high and best mover of the top100).
