After defeating Belinda Bencic in straight sets to reach her first Wimbledon final, Iga Swiatek was asked in a press conference whether winning the title on Saturday—and thereby completing a Grand Slam on all three surfaces—had ever been a goal for her. The Polish star responded with characteristic humility and realism.

A grounded approach to success

Swiatek admitted that she never imagined such an achievement was within reach. “Not really because I never thought it would be possible,” she said. “As I said after my last match, I’m not this kind of person that sets these kinds of goals. I kind of live tournament by tournament.”

Rather than chasing historic milestones, Swiatek emphasized her focus on daily improvement and consistency. “It’s not like I wake up and I’m like ‘Ok, I’m gonna win 3 slams this year.’ It’s not how I work. I have more like, down to earth goals, practicing day by day. This is what has always been working. I never had goals like that I would say.”

A new chapter on grass

Swiatek’s run to the Wimbledon final marks a significant breakthrough on a surface that has historically challenged her. Known for her dominance on clay and hard courts, she has now proven her adaptability and resilience on grass, setting the stage for a potentially career-defining moment.

If she wins the final, Swiatek will join a rare group of players who have triumphed at the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open—each representing a different surface. Whether or not it was ever a goal, she now stands on the brink of making history.
