Jannik Sinner confirmed that the pain in his right elbow is improving following a fall during his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov. After his quarter-final win over Ben Shelton, the world number one shared that he played with the help of painkillers, which allowed him to manage discomfort and maintain his performance.
Elbow injury traced to early-round slip
The issue originated during the opening game against Dimitrov, when Sinner slipped near the baseline and braced his fall with his racket arm. The impact caused pain that affected his serve and forehand for the remainder of the match. Following an MRI scan, Sinner appeared in his next match wearing a protective sleeve to aid stability and support.
This is what he said:
“The pain is getting better,” Sinner told BBC Sport. “I played today with some painkillers which helped me to get through.
“Returning fast serves is not easy. But yes, it’s not something crazy serious because if not I would be much more concerned.
“Time will always help and [Thursday] is one day off, which is going to be good for me, and Friday I’m going to be 100%.”
Optimism ahead of Djokovic showdown
Despite the injury, Sinner expressed confidence about his condition before Friday’s semi-final against Novak Djokovic. He emphasized that Thursday’s rest day would be key to his recovery and assured fans he expects to be at full strength. His team also tweaked his equipment, including switching footwear for improved grip on the grass.
Focused and ready for the challenge
Sinner’s recent performances reflect his determination and ability to adapt under pressure. With four consecutive major semi-final appearances and a growing command of the grass court surface, he remains focused on his pursuit of Wimbledon glory.
